ADHD Testing

We offer detailed ADHD testing and evaluations to make sure you or your child gets an accurate assessment. Our testing process helps us determine if ADHD criteria are met and understand the severity of symptoms. This allows us to see if medication management may help. By looking at individual symptoms, we can create a personalized treatment plan that works for you in different settings like home, school, or work. Once diagnosed, our caring team will work with you to develop a plan that meets your needs and supports your path to improved mental health.

Understanding ADHD in Females: Bridging the Diagnostic Gap

Historically, ADHD in females has been under-diagnosed, often overlooked during childhood and adolescence. This gap stems from earlier perceptions of ADHD as a disorder primarily affecting males, with females exhibiting symptoms in less recognized ways. However, advancements in diagnostic approaches are changing this narrative. We at Erie Psychiatry are at the forefront of these changes, ensuring females with ADHD receive the attention and care they deserve. Our enhanced focus on accurate diagnostics means we can now support those who may have been missed or misunderstood in the past, opening doors to effective treatment and understanding.

ADHD Evaluation Process: Comprehensive and Personalized

For those exploring an ADHD diagnosis, we at Erie Psychiatry offer a thorough evaluation process. This begins once you've established care with us, starting with an initial psychiatric evaluation. We do not provide standalone ADHD diagnostic evaluations, as understanding ADHD's impact requires a deep dive into your experiences across various aspects of life, including home, work, school, and social interactions. We encourage you to discuss your concerns and the evaluation process during your first appointment. Our team is dedicated to explaining what to expect and ensuring you receive the comprehensive care and understanding you need on your mental health journey.

Your Visits: What To Expect
  • Your first appointment will include a comprehensive review of your mental, physical, social and biological health history, all of which help build a narrative and map out an effective treatment plan. During this visit, we’ll spend time learning about you, hearing your story, and asking you a few questions. We’ll learn about the important people in your life, your habits and routines, and what you’d like help with. Along with this, we’ll have an initial discussion of your goals which will help tailor recommendations made specifically for you.

*Please note medications are not prescribed in the initial evaluation, but are discussed in detail during the Treatment Planning visit

    Duration: 50 minutes

  • Developing an effective treatment plan provides us a “blueprint” of how to best approach your individual concerns. During this appointment we’ll talk about if you’ve tried medication, what your experience was like as well as what worked and what didn’t work.

We’ll talk about the different treatment options that are available, including any recommended psychiatric medication, nutritional supplements and other modalities. Mental health treatment is a process, rather than a destination. Treatment includes an ongoing conversation and in-depth exploration of your symptoms and how it relates to diagnostics. This allows us to design a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs.

At Erie Psychiatry, we aim to develop a treatment plan that addresses not only how we can help manage the symptoms, but to find the root of their cause, so that eventually, you may not need medication or may need less of it in the future.

    Duration: 25 minutes

  • 25-minute visits:

Created to allow us time to discuss how your treatment is going, response to treatment, including medication and supplements, review medical changes/updates, discuss recent emotional changes and any concerns from the parent/guardian. Appointments will be scheduled based on the clinical necessity and be discussed with you after each appointment we have together.

    Fee: $180

    50-minute visits:

These appointments are designed for patients who would like to bring a family member, partner, or alternative support who would like to learn more about their treatment plan, or have questions about specific medications or diagnoses. 50-minutes allows time for us to fully discuss everyone’s concerns, review complex cases that may require more time and to discuss changing the course of your treatment.

    Fee: $300

  • Erie Psychiatry is dedicated to providing comprehensive and empathetic care for individuals grappling with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and mental health conditions. Our goal is to offer a supportive environment that empowers patients to navigate their recovery journey successfully. With a strong focus on individualized care, we utilize a range of evidence-based treatments, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), to address the unique needs of each patient. This approach ensures effective management of SUDs, contributing to improved patient outcomes and overall well-being.
